Brief Overview

The HIM Operations Auditor Specialist ensures the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of medical records throughout the organization. This role supports quality improvement initiatives, monitors performance metrics, provides education and training, and ensures alignment with hospital policies as well as accreditation and regulatory standards.

What You Will Do

  • Audit Monitor and assess the quality and quantity of work completed by HIM team members to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
  • Performs in-depth investigations of questionable data entry, corrects or provides targeted guidance as advised, and participates in data integrity or regulatory audits and other duties as assigned.
  • Reviews the accuracy of changes made to patient identifiers and provides targeted guidance as appropriate.
  • Audit documents scanned outside of HIM for adherence to scanning policies and guidelines.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Designs, prepares, and presents statistical, trending, and performance improvement reports to leadership or others as needed.
  • Tracks audit outcomes and maintains documentation for compliance and quality assurance.

Training & Education

  • Provides education and training to HIM team members and other staff as needed.
  • Conducts regular reviews and updates of HIM documentation, job aids, policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and maintain up-to-date workflows.
  • Stays current with regulatory changes and updates to state and federal law that impact HIM operations.

Education Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or related field
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or related field

Experience Qualifications

  • At least four (4) years experience in HIM operations
  • At least two (2) years experience in HIPPA privacy rules (preferred)

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to lead a team for projects
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle functions
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and document management systems, preferably Epic and OnBase
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to gather, analyze and make recommendations/decisions based on data
  • Ability to convey complex or technical information in an easy-to-understand manner

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association - upon hire - Required
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association - upon hire - Required
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - American Health Information Management Association - upon hire - Preferred
  • Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) - American Health Information Management Association - upon hire - Preferred
  • EPIC certification - EPIC - upon hire - Preferred
  • MY CHOP - CHOP based - upon hire - Preferred
  • ROI (EPIC) - EPIC - upon hire - Preferred
  • Identity (EPIC) - EPIC - upon hire - Preferred
  • Deficiency (EPIC) - EPIC - upon hire - Preferred

Pay

SALARY RANGE: $81,670.00 - $104,130.00 Annually
