About the role
You will apply principles and practices of acquiring, analyzing, maintaining, releasing, and protecting medical information that is vital to providing quality patient care. As a key member of the electronic health record (EHR) workforce, you will bridge patients’ health information and payers—including insurance companies, government agencies, and regulating bodies.
Responsibilities
- Routine use, maintenance, and upkeep of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to ensure patient data remains private, accurate, and secure.
- Maintain and operate health-record databases and HIM-related applications to collect, classify, and analyze information.
- Assist providers with Cerner, Athena, and/or other electronic-system tasks related to medical-record deficiency completion, including documentation creation in the EHR and transcription.
- Coordinate with clinicians, coding/billing teams, and clinic support staff to ensure completeness and accuracy of records.
- Assemble patient health information—medical history, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods, and all other healthcare-provider services.
- Organize and manage health-information data to guarantee its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and medical-staff bylaws and regulations.
- Perform daily charge entry and/or verify existing charges for services rendered with speed and accuracy; follow order-entry rules and apply modifiers as required.
- Prepare electronic or paper copies of medical charts according to hospital policies and procedures, adhering to HIPAA, Joint Commission, and Compliance Plan regulations; meet departmental turnaround-time guidelines.
- Process STAT requests and third-party requests.
Requirements
- College degree or progress toward a degree preferred.
- One to three years of demonstrated experience in a healthcare field or healthcare profession related to Health Information Management preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of an EHR required.
