HIL Systems Engineering Internship - Fall 2026

About the role

The Engineering Intern performs basic engineering functions in support of mining equipment. Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co., located at 4100 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607, is part of Liebherr’s U.S. operations, which began in 1970 and now includes facilities for mining trucks and a range of products across divisions such as Liebherr-Aerospace, Gear Technology, Automation Systems, and Liebherr USA.

Responsibilities

• Works with the Engineering staff on projects outlined in the individualized intern training plan.
• Works independently and as a team member with other Engineers, Designers, and production personnel or on ad hoc projects.

Qualifications

• Current or recently graduated student in good standing who has completed 60 hours towards a related Engineering Bachelor’s degree.

Requirements

• Expected to travel nationally up to 20% to customer or supplier sites for some training plans.
• Ability to complete and maintain mine certifications or safety training such as Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) hazard training.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
