Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1/Trainee 2/Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (Region 8 - Ulster County)

Duties

Individuals selected must be able to respond to emergency callout within 1 hour during inclement weather, including all snow and ice conditions, to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions.
• Operate plows during winter operations and obtain the equipment certifications listed above.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1: Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination and drug test*, and possess a Class D Driver License.
• Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2: Must be 18 years old, pass physical/medical examination* and drug test; and possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction.
• Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements, and two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications, in addition to the following three specific certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader.

Note: All candidates must pass a pre-employment physical/medical examination* and drug test prior to beginning employment. Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment.

Benefits

• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1 is $57,465. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $46,759 with an additional geographic pay differential of $10,706, specific to this title and location.
• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2 is $59,475. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $48,963 with an additional geographic pay differential of $10,512, specific to this title and location.
• The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker 1 is $60,143. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $49,743 with an additional geographic pay differential of $10,400, specific to this title and location.
• In addition, a Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $2,000 or a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000 may also apply depending on the location of the position.
