Responsibilities

  • Operates small equipment such as a dump truck, roller (≤4 tons), and sweeper.
  • Performs vegetation management activities using equipment such as powered hand tools (e.g., chain saws, weed eaters, backpack herbicide sprayers).
  • Assists with the placement of traffic control devices to set up a maintenance work zone.
  • Serves as a flagger to safely direct and control traffic in maintenance work zones.
  • Picks up litter, debris, and dead animals.
  • Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, which may include extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • No minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
  • Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Demands

  • Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.
  • May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week, especially during inclement weather.
