About the role
The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) seeks a Highway Maintenance Worker to ensure state highways are safe and drivable.
Responsibilities
- Perform roadway maintenance activities
- Perform roadside activities
- Install and replace signs, traffic control devices, and pavement markings
- Maintain and repair guardrail systems
- Perform structure maintenance and repair activities
- Respond to emergencies and hazardous sites
- Provide on-the-job training and work direction
- Operate and use a variety of equipment and tools
- Promote a safe work environment and participate in public safety awareness activities
Requirements
- Valid driver license and CDL within 120 days of hire
- Class A CDL with tanker endorsement
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds routinely, up to 60 pounds occasionally, and 90 or more pounds infrequently
- Basic math skills
- Basic computer operation

Compensation
The total compensation for a typical year for entry level Highway Maintenance Worker is approximately $67,003.00 annually. This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
