About the role

This position focuses on maintaining and reconstructing roadways, roadside maintenance, and snow and ice control. The incumbent will operate various equipment and perform tasks such as removing snow and ice, maintaining roadways, and inspecting winter equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and reconstructs roadways, rights-of-way, and road shoulders with gravel, bituminous, and concrete road surfaces.
  • Operates all tractor mowers and small rollers for the purpose of maintaining roadways.
  • Performs traffic control set-ups in high volume traffic and ensures compliance with the Temporary Traffic Zone Layouts field manual.
  • Maintains and inspects snowplow equipment, cutting edges, and sanders.
  • Performs landscaping duties, including maintenance of trees, grass, shrubs, brush, and planting, watering, seeding, sodding, trimming, and removal of tree limbs and stumps.
  • Prepares and inspects winter equipment and performs post-storm cleanup, including machine or hand sweeping of bridges, guardrails, sidewalks, crossovers, medians, ramps, and roadways.
  • Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no air brake restriction and tanker endorsement.
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits).
  • Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate, or Transportation Generalist.

Skills

  • Knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information.
  • Ability to communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices.
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Pay

$25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,596 - $65,980 / annually.

Schedule

This is a full-time year-round position, with seasonal schedules (summer hours & winter hours). Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations.
