Highway Maintenance Technician

About the role

Roy Jorgensen Associates, Inc. is seeking full-time Highway Maintenance Technicians to perform advanced maintenance operations in Waco, Texas during day, mid, and night shifts. This position involves a variety of tasks related to highway maintenance, including signs, guardrail, and/or drainage, while adhering to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform highway maintenance tasks using shovels, weed trimming machinery, brooms, and various small hand tools
• Operate air compressors and heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, skid steers, forklifts, asphalt rollers, etc.
• Install and maintain guardrails and signs
• Perform concrete forming and repair
• Implement traffic control measures (MOT certifications/courses)
• Adhere to safety protocols and use required safety equipment
• Work under varying environmental and weather conditions, including weather events like snow, ice, and floods
• Lift up to 50 pounds and operate hand/power tools
• Use smartphones and applications for job-related tasks
• Adjust to changing work schedules

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of related experience in construction or roadway maintenance
• Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
• Must pass criminal background check, MVR, and controlled substance/drug testing
• High School Diploma or GED
• Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic functions
• Proficiency in adapting to the latest technology

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) – preferred but not required
• CDL License – a plus
• Prior roadway maintenance experience
