About the role

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) seeks a professional to oversee and analyze project scopes, negotiate fees, and develop contract documents. This role also involves reviewing and inspecting bridges, preparing design plans, and providing technical recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes procedures for overseeing construction projects.
  • Reviews and interprets plans, specifications, and construction methods with contractors.
  • Develops and administers major field traffic operations.
  • Reviews and inspects bridges for maintenance, repair, or rehabilitation.
  • Directs job control tests and updates specifications and policies.
  • Provides recommendations and expertise for field maintenance issues.
  • Conducts advanced engineering work in various fields.

Requirements

  • A registered Professional Engineer license in Indiana is required.
  • Broad knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles, and methods.
  • Experience in highway or transportation project features.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws and INDOT standards.
  • Computer skills in CAD and drafting.
  • Ability to make technical recommendations and decisions.
  • Knowledge of Indiana Design Manual, IMUTCD, and INDOT standard specifications.
  • Experience with department systems like SPMS, dTIMS, ArcGIS, and WMS.
  • Bridge-specific knowledge, including bridge design software and inspection courses.

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Skills

  • Initiative and creativity in technical recommendations.
  • Advanced knowledge of design plans and reports.

Pay

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $85,020.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

Schedule

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
