HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER
Anticipated for the 2026-2027 school year at Maritime Western New York Maritime Charter School, a military-style public charter school focused on academic excellence, leadership development, character, and structure.
About the Role
We are seeking a teacher who establishes clear expectations, manages a classroom with consistency and urgency, and understands that structure creates safety and learning. This role is for professionals who own the room, set the standard, and enforce it daily in a high-accountability, no-excuses environment. If you believe classroom management relies solely on relationships without structure and enforcement, this may not be the right fit.
Responsibilities
- Deliver tight, well-structured instruction aligned to NYS standards.
- Execute clear routines and procedures daily without inconsistencies.
- Maintain a classroom where:
- Students are on task.
- Expectations are visible and enforced.
- Disruptions are addressed immediately and professionally.
- Use data to drive instruction, not guesswork.
- Hold students accountable for work completion, behavior, and academic progress.
- Communicate consistently with families and staff.
- Contribute to a schoolwide culture of discipline, respect, and urgency.
Non-Negotiables
- Show up prepared every day.
- Follow school systems and protocols with fidelity.
- Address behavior in the moment, not later.
- Do not ignore low-level disruption.
- Maintain professional standards in dress, communication, and conduct.
What Success Looks Like
- Students are engaged, structured, and learning.
- Your classroom runs on predictable systems, not personality.
- Expectations hold even when you are not in the room.
- Academic results show measurable growth.
- You are aligned with the mission, not working against it.
Requirements
- Valid New York State Certification (Earth Science/Earth and Space Science 7-12 or equivalent).
- NYSED Fingerprint Clearance.
- Strong working knowledge of NYS Science Standards (MTSS-I).
Preferred Traits
- Command presence without being overbearing.
- Direct communicator.
- Maintains composure under pressure and responds with solutions, not excuses.
- Team-first mindset.
- Relentless consistency.
Benefits
- Strong leadership support with clear expectations.
- Structured environment that reduces chaos.
- Mission-driven work with real impact.
- Opportunity to be part of a school that is building something that works.
