High School Science Teacher
Kennedy Catholic Preparatory School, located at 54 Route 138, Somers, NY 10589, is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Biology Teacher to join our faculty beginning in September 2026.
About the role
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, communicate effectively, and demonstrate the ability to teach high school biology courses, including honors and Advanced Placement coursework as assigned. The successful candidate will foster scientific inquiry through engaging laboratory experiences and integrate classroom technology into instructional methodology.
A Master's degree is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and enrollment in a Master's program in Biology, Science Education, or a closely related field will be considered. NYS teaching certification is a plus. Prior teaching experience is necessary.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with College Board curriculum standards in Biology.
- Teach Biology and other life science courses assigned, including Honors and AP Biology.
- Plan, supervise, and maintain safe, hands-on laboratory investigations that promote scientific inquiry and critical thinking.
- Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments and provide individualized support as needed.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and effective classroom and laboratory environment.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to foster a collaborative educational experience.
- Participate in faculty meetings, ongoing professional development, and other school activities.
- Mentor students and provide extra academic support when needed.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of biology, including cellular biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, anatomy and physiology, and laboratory techniques.
- Experience in curriculum development and instructional design tailored for high school learners.
- Experience in teaching Honors and/or Advanced Placement Biology is preferred.
- Ability to design and facilitate inquiry-based laboratory investigations.
- Proficiency with learning technology tools and digital resources for effective teaching.
- Classroom management skills that promote discipline while fostering a supportive atmosphere for working with diverse student populations.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly explain complex concepts and engage students of varying abilities.

Pay
$50,000 – $70,000 per year
