High School Math Teacher, LSD (Louisiana School for the Deaf)

About the role

The Louisiana Special Schools are experiencing a critical shortage of certified teachers, school counselors, interpreters and educators of the Deaf or hard of hearing and Visually Impaired. The LA SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking applicants for a High School Leap Math Teacher, LSD (Louisiana School for the Deaf).

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute rigorous lessons aligned to the Louisiana State Standards – Leap Connectors, and the school’s internal curriculum.
• Utilize curriculum assessments at the daily, weekly, and unit level to measure student learning.
• Create ideal student responses or mastery responses to define the bar of rigor for students.
• Test overall mastery at the unit level aligned to the end of year assessment for your course.
• Ensure lessons demonstrate deep knowledge and passion for content, driving mastery and investment from every student.
• Create and leverage a classroom narrative along with the school system of positive behavior support and positive discipline to build strong and positive student identities.
• Praise and recognize students to show what is valued, and use corrections and consequences to teach expected behavior while holding students accountable to high standards.
• Build relationships with students to push them to the highest heights academically and as people.
• Use restorative approaches with every student when approaching corrections and consequences.
• Communicate regularly with students and parents to support positive student relationships and address concerns.
• Execute lessons with fidelity, ensuring 100% engagement and rigorous thinking from all students.
• Reflect on data daily to know what students learned and plan interventions to fill in gaps.
• Teach to the diverse learning needs of every student, planning and executing strong Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions within the Response to Intervention (RtI) framework.

Requirements

• Louisiana teaching certificate, 2+ years of teaching experience, preferably working with students from similar backgrounds to LSD students.
• Certification in deaf education preferred.
• Sign Language Proficiency-Advanced level, preferred (2 years to achieve).

Pay

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

This is a full-time 9-month and 7.5-hour per day position, with the possibility of flexible scheduling to accommodate the needs of the school and students.
