Great Oaks Charter Schools is dedicated to molding students who will shape the world, not be defined by it. Our approach centers on Mastery, Leadership, and Community, fostering confidence, persistence through challenges, and embracing failure as a learning opportunity. We provide a rigorous 6-12 academic program with a positive school culture and strong family relationships, combining project-based learning, advanced curriculum, and supplementary tutorial support to maximize student agency.

About Great Oaks Charter School – New York City

Great Oaks Charter School - New York City (GO-NYC) opened in Fall 2013 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and currently serves approximately 310 students in 6th-11th grades. At full scale, GO-NYC will serve grades 6th-12th. The school recently relocated to 240 Bleecker Street in the West Village. GO-NYC uses a full inclusion model, with every core class taught as an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom, typically staffed by two co-teachers (one content, one special education) and an Americorps Fellow.

Instructional Vision

We believe in the power of deeper learning, providing students with opportunities to develop significant knowledge and skills, produce original work, and connect learning to their identities and aspirations. We measure and reflect on student progress by understanding grade-level challenges and triumphs. Mistakes are viewed as growth opportunities, and we use daily data to improve and innovate instruction.

Cultural Vision

We create a safe, inclusive learning environment where students explore their passions and develop a strong sense of self. We partner with families to increase engagement and prioritize socio-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices. Our students feel known, loved, and valued, supported both inside and outside the classroom.
