High School Humanities Teacher (English & History)

Forte Preparatory Academy is a college preparatory charter school serving students in Queens, New York. Our mission is to prepare all students to graduate from college and lead lives of purpose. We believe that rigorous academics, strong literacy instruction, and a deep engagement with history and literature are essential to that mission.

Our new Forte Prep High School, located at 78-02 Queens Blvd in Elmhurst, is an intelligently designed 60,000 sq. ft, 6-story building, open to natural light and outfitted with over 25 spacious classrooms and offices, a full-sized gymnasium, a rooftop athletic field, and a robust library and media center. It is located less than half a mile away from the middle school and is easily accessible by our established school community. This new building will open in the Fall of 2026 and will serve our 9th–12th grade cohort, previously split between two locations. The facility will also host community events and sports, making Forte Prep High School a true neighborhood partner.

Forte Prep Academy High School is a new 9th through 12th grade, tuition-free public charter school focused on serving the Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, and Corona communities. Our mission is to equip all students to become the next generation of leaders in Queens and beyond through academic, community, and personal excellence. We address the need for college readiness, as 77% of high school graduates in our neighborhood are unprepared for college-level rigor.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning, with a focus on English and History
• Ensure lessons are rigorous, clear, measurable, and aligned with Common Core State Standards
• Develop and use a variety of assessments (e.g., exams, written work, and public performances) to measure student progress toward content and skill standards
• Maintain an organized classroom environment that facilitates learning
• Ensure students master grade-level standards
• Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students
• Incorporate direct instruction, discussion, projects, and cooperative work to engage students and foster a lasting desire to learn
• Follow school policies and procedures for student conduct and discipline; refuse to tolerate classroom disruptions
• Develop clear evaluation criteria and distribute to students prior to assignments
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
• Share responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities
• Remind students of the joy found in a great educational experience

Pay

Salary range is $65,000–$95,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

• Monday to Friday
• Weekend availability may be required
• Ability to commute or relocate to Elmhurst, NY 11373 before starting work (required)
