High School Humanities Teacher

Academics West is searching for a part-time Humanities Teacher for our Upper School who will be responsible for direct instruction that addresses goals and objectives specified in students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and/or follows NYS general education guidelines. The ideal candidate is bright, energetic, and motivated to help children with learning and emotional challenges, committed to learning and infusing our Clinically Informed Academics (CIA) model.

Start date: End of August 2026

About the role

The primary function is to educate students using up-to-date pedagogy within the Humanities content area. Teachers engage students, assess their knowledge, and collaborate with educational clinicians to develop and implement classroom management plans. Educators model the Academics West mission and philosophy, demonstrating strong foundational knowledge of the CIA model and implementing it in the classroom. Teachers report directly to the Associate Director of Education and Head Coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and implement appropriate lesson plans and meet objectives
• Exhibit a love of learning and educating as a dynamic teacher
• Welcome potential new students and engage them during trial days
• Collaborate with the Admissions Department for new student onboarding
• Write weekly progress reports on each student
• Oversee classroom management
• Consult frequently with clinicians about students’ therapeutic needs
• Review students’ neuropsychological reports and other assessments to inform instruction
• Attend all student and staff meetings
• Attend all Professional Development Days
• Assess student progress as requested by the Associate Director of Education
• Nurture students as they develop both academic and prosocial skills in and out of the classroom

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (Master’s Degree preferred)
• Degree in Humanities (English, History, Philosophy)
• 3+ years of experience teaching students with special education needs
• Exceptional knowledge in writing and literature

Schedule

Typically 5 hours a day during the week when school is open.
