About the Role

The ideal candidate is an “uber” kid person who absolutely loves to teach, train, and push students both academically and behaviorally. This teacher embraces failure as a natural and welcomed part of the learning process, treats all students with dignity, and teaches non-academic skills such as hard work, collaboration, kindness, and receiving feedback. The role requires a passion for planning, preparation, data-driven instruction, and a commitment to excellence, with a focus on intellectual preparation to drive student achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Commit to daily and long-term lesson planning and instructional preparation to maximize student learning.
  • Continuously learn and improve practice by implementing feedback from instructional leadership, peers, parents, and students.
  • Use data to improve short-term and long-term student achievement goals.
  • Take full accountability for student academic outcomes and classroom culture, with a steadfast belief that all students can achieve.
  • Act as a team player (crew member) and align with Pharos Academy’s core values and educational viewpoint.

Teacher Performance Outcomes

  • At minimum, 75% of all students meet grade-level standards in core content areas as measured by internal assessments and NYS Regents assessments (if applicable).
  • At minimum, 33% of all students exceed proficiency in the content area as measured by internal assessments.
  • At minimum, 90% of students show growth in the content area as measured by internal assessments.
  • At minimum, 75% of students meet grade-level non-academic standards/goals as measured by internal assessments and performance tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in secondary education and/or a History-related field of study.
  • Proficiency in the content area you are applying for, with a clear understanding of how to relate it to the real world.
  • Strong love and commitment to helping students work through mistakes while building pro-social and academic skills.
  • Experience working with middle or high school-aged children in an academic or youth development setting.
  • Experienced teachers must show a proven track record of achievement in the classroom.

Pay

Full-Time Teacher Pay Range: $80,000 USD - $110,000 USD
