Responsibilities

• Teach literary analysis across genres, rhetoric and argumentation, research writing, grammar and style, vocabulary development, and critical reading of complex texts.
• Explain literary devices, rhetorical strategies, MLA citation, and thesis-driven essay construction to prepare students for AP English courses, SAT/ACT English sections, and college composition.
• Guide students through close reading, analytical essay writing, and research methodology, including interpreting complex literature, constructing thesis-driven arguments, evaluating source credibility, and writing research papers with proper documentation.
• Develop critical thinking through textual analysis and connect English skills to college readiness, professional communication, and civic participation.
• Adapt instruction using mentor texts, essay workshops, and discussion-based analysis to support students from general English through honors and AP levels.
• Identify concepts students commonly struggle with and explain material using multiple approaches tailored to individual learning needs and styles.

Requirements

• Advanced subject mastery in high school English, including deep knowledge of state standards, AP course frameworks, and common challenges such as moving beyond summary to analysis, developing sophisticated thesis statements, and integrating textual evidence effectively.
• Strong conceptual teaching and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt instruction to diverse learning styles and student needs.
• Familiarity with high school English curricula and effective teaching methods.
• Excellent communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
