Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one tutoring for high school students (Grades 9–12) in English Language Arts
- Support students in literature, reading comprehension, academic and creative writing, grammar, vocabulary, and composition
- Assist with homework, essay writing, study skills, executive functioning, and test preparation, including SAT/ACT verbal sections when appropriate
- Develop individualized learning plans based on each student's needs and academic goals
- Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to families
- Foster a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment
- Travel to students' homes throughout the Northern Los Angeles area
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Literature, or a related field required; teaching credential or advanced degree preferred
- Valid California teaching credential or equivalent is highly preferred
- Experience teaching or tutoring high school English students
- Strong knowledge of high school English curriculum, literature, writing instruction, and grammar
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Reliable transportation
- Authorized to work in the United States
Qualified applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Hold a valid California teaching credential or equivalent
- Be a current student teacher pursuing a teaching credential
- Have two or more years of experience teaching high school English in a public, private, or charter school
- Have significant experience providing one-on-one or small-group tutoring in high school English, literature, or writing
- Be a graduate student in English, Education, Literature, or a related field with teaching or instructional experience
