Responsibilities

• Teach close reading, analytical essay writing, and research methodology for high school English.
• Guide students through interpreting complex literature, constructing thesis-driven arguments, evaluating source credibility, and writing research papers with proper documentation.
• Develop critical thinking through textual analysis and connect English skills to college readiness, professional communication, and civic participation.
• Adapt instruction using mentor texts, essay workshops, and discussion-based analysis to support students from general English through honors and AP levels.
• Identify and address common student challenges, such as moving beyond summary to analysis, developing sophisticated thesis statements, and integrating textual evidence effectively.
• Explain literary devices, rhetorical strategies, MLA citation, and thesis-driven essay construction to prepare students for AP English courses, SAT/ACT English sections, and college composition.
• Use multiple teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and styles.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of literary analysis across genres, rhetoric and argumentation, research writing, grammar and style, vocabulary development, and critical reading of complex texts.
• Familiarity with high school English curricula, including state standards and AP course frameworks.
• Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with and adapt instruction accordingly.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
