About the Role

The High School Electives Teacher is a highly qualified, state-certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. Teachers provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. They monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system and work closely with students and parents/learning coaches to advance each student’s learning toward established goals. While the role is primarily remote, occasional travel is required for school functions such as state testing.

Responsibilities

  • Provides rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
  • Commits to personalizing learning for all students and demonstrates a belief in every student’s ability to succeed.
  • Differentiates instruction based on student mastery levels.
  • Augments course content using prescribed policies and procedures with appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools.
  • Maintains a grade book, ensures academic integrity, and makes student placement and promotion decisions.
  • Alerts administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
  • Prepares students for high-stakes standardized tests.
  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents.
  • Supports learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic troubleshooting issues in a virtual classroom.
  • Travels as required (approximately 20% of the time) for professional development, student testing, and other school-related functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Active state teaching license (Texas High School Electives Teaching Certification required).
  • Must reside in Texas.
  • Ability to clear a required background check.
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week.
  • Maintain a professional home office without distraction during work hours (typically 9–5 or 8–4, or as defined by the school).

Qualifications

  • Experience working with the proposed age group (high school students).
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or brick-and-mortar environment.
  • Experience with online learning platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce student data representations for instructional decisions.
  • Receptive to regular coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification, professional development hours, and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum.
