High School Counselor

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered High School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and college/career development of students in grades 9-12. The ideal candidate is proactive, collaborative, and committed to helping all students achieve success in a diverse K-12 charter school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling focused on academic planning, personal development, and postsecondary readiness.
  • Develop and monitor student graduation plans aligned with North Carolina requirements.
  • Assist students with college applications, scholarships, financial aid (FAFSA), and career exploration.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success and well-being.
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Deliver classroom guidance lessons on topics such as study skills, mental health, and career readiness.
  • Identify and support at-risk students through intervention plans and referrals.
  • Partner with community organizations and postsecondary institutions.
  • Contribute to a positive school culture aligned with the mission of a K–12 charter school.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field.
  • Valid North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in School Counseling (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Experience working with high school students preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of college admissions processes and career pathways.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small school environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a charter or K-12 school setting.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
