Qualifications
- Must be a minimum age of 18 years old.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Preference is given to those with experience working in a supervision role in athletics, recreation, education, or related fields.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with adults and students in a diverse work environment are preferred.
Essential Functions
- Serve as a supervisor for student athletes.
- Stay current with current rules, coaching techniques, schemes, and best practices.
- Maintain a safe environment for student-athletes by preventing accidents and injuries.
- Encourage student-athletes to succeed both in their sport and in life.
- Show strong interpersonal skills including effective communication with sports medicine staff, game workers, officials, media, students, parents, spectators, and facility staff.
- Ensure all safety measures are observed, including proper care of equipment and surveillance of program participants.
- Attend all training sessions and additional staff meetings.
- Work flexible hours including off-season training, early mornings, afternoon/evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Verify student-athletes' eligibility according to PIAA and Reading School District Athletic policies.
- Secure equipment and facilities after each usage.
- Communicate with relevant parties such as RSD administration, safe schools, custodial services, and/or RPD as needed.
- Engage with youth groups and foster participation growth.
- Model appropriate behavior for student-athletes.
- Support all RSD athletics.
Physical Requirements
- Physically perform all skills required of a coach.
- Hear noises and distress signals in a crowded athletic facility.
- Be able to withstand extreme weather conditions.
- Be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
