About the role

The Teacher High School Assistant Choir Director will assist the Head Choir Director with the planning and implementation of the instructional program for the campus treble, tenor-bass, and mixed choirs. The incumbent will assist in managing aspects of the campus choral program.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and monitor group and individual instruction, rehearsals, and performances for the treble, tenor-bass, and mixed choir programs in coordination with the Head Choir Director
  • Plan appropriate learning activities including determining appropriate type and level of materials and implementing an instructional program that provides an appropriate learning sequence, considering different learning styles and a range of abilities
  • Assess student achievement as related to desired educational goals and outcomes and maintain appropriate assessment documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
  • Manage the behavior of learners in the instructional setting to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process; assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site both during and outside of school hours; monitor and enforce compliance with the Fort Bend ISD Student/Parent Handbook and Student Code of Conduct
  • Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are accessible to students and in good condition
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the Head Choir Director, campus administration, and/or Assistant Director of Fine Arts
  • Implement sectional, small group, and large ensemble instruction in the fall and spring semester to provide adequate preparation for all concerts, competitions, auditions, and events
  • Communicate continually with students on instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations
  • Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress
  • Comply with established FBISD policies and procedures regarding fundraising, budget management, inventory and materials management, student travel, employee travel, private lessons, and the submission of entry forms and fees by prescribed deadlines
  • Provide proper student supervision during and after all program activities until all students have left the area

Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment EC-12 Music upon hire, or has received statement of eligibility
  • Minimum of 1 year of Full-time teaching experience preferred
  • Effective oral and written communications skills, including the ability to use social media effectively
  • Demonstrated proficiency as a vocalist as well as the ability to play warm ups and vocal parts in rehearsal
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public, District staff, and parents
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues on the campus and in the instructional feeder pattern
  • Ability to market the instructional program

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
