About the Role
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, you will facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs, and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. You will also provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and administer high school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Instruct students in principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, administrative regulations, and procedures.
- Acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct conforms with the school's standards and district policies; maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum; participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment; maintain inventory records.
- Supervise students in activities outside the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
- Provide a safe, nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom environment that encourages student responsibility and learning progress.
- Develop differentiated lessons and instruction appropriate for students in an alternative school setting, including small group, whole group, and one-on-one formats.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individual education plans for students.
- Plan engaging daily classroom instructional activities.
- Administer student assessments to ascertain academic needs and progress of students in an alternative setting.
- Work collaboratively with school counselors, teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers on student individualized educational plans, including lessons that address behavioral needs.
- Prepare lesson plans correlated with student needs.
- Maintain student records and files confidentially.
- Keep accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, and strengths.
- Maintain accurate daily student attendance records.
- Communicate consistently with parents, teachers, administrators, and related service providers to positively affect student success.
- Actively research best practices and training for alternative learning educators.
- Submit all reports, forms, records, and data as requested by the Gateway Administrator.
- Attend workshops and professional development courses.
- Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and ethics, working cooperatively with the Board, Superintendent, administrators, certificated and non-certificated personnel, parents, and students.
- Attend meetings, events, and training as required by the Gateway Administrator.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Gateway Administrator or School Principal.
Requirements
- Arkansas State Certification as a Teacher; multiple secondary licensure areas preferred.
- Arkansas State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
- Additional license areas including Special Education and/or English as a Second Language (ESL) preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of high school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
