About the role

The Eulerian Codes Group (XCP-2) is seeking talented professionals to contribute to the development, implementation, and validation of high explosives models within our advanced scientific computing environment. Our team collaborates across various computational physics disciplines, including numerical fluid and solid mechanics, materials science, radiation hydrodynamics, plasma physics, turbulence, magnetohydrodynamics, high explosives, nuclear physics and engineering, and neutral and charged particle transport.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop applied physics and engineering models
  • Implement these models into production codes using best software development practices
  • Test and validate the implemented methods
  • Mentor students, postdocs, and junior staff members

Requirements

  • Minimum technical knowledge and experience in computational modeling of high explosives, reactive flow, or chemical kinetics
  • Proficiency with modern Fortran, C, or C++ and/or experience in developing multi-physics scientific codes
  • Excellent software engineering and design skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
  • Experience in mentoring and teaching others

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college and university with 4 years of related experience, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced science degree (MS or PhD) in applied mathematics, physics, engineering, or related field preferred
  • Experience with massively parallel numerical development and simulation, and deployment of numerical algorithms to heterogeneous computing architectures
  • Experience with LANL's mission and research environment
