Responsibilities
- Feeds, waters, vaccinates, and performs animal husbandry tasks including basic veterinary procedures.
- Maintains flexibility and willingness to change plans according to farm leadership.
- Aids in moving animals and managing efficient animal flows.
- Sanitizes and washes multiple areas on the farm using high-pressure equipment.
- Processes piglets by injecting medications, castrating, docking tails, and ear notching.
- Maintains accurate production information and updates department records.
- Treats sick animals with various pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, and other methods as required.
- Fulfills Standard Operation Procedures, Production Manuals, or Training Guides.
- Assists with facility and equipment maintenance.
- Ensures barn, office cleanliness, and laundry duties are maintained.
- Complies with animal welfare policies and procedures, including providing a suitable environment, ensuring access to water and feed, humane treatment, and proper health care.
- Follows environmental, safety, and biosecurity laws and procedures.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous livestock handling experience helpful.
- Ability to perform hard physical labor.
- Strong commitment to teamwork.
- Willingness to shower daily and maintain a clean personal appearance.
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to standardized situations.
- Capable of working an average 48-hour work week, which may vary frequently.
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.
- Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Respectful, approachable, and team-oriented behavior.
- Ability to comply with all environmental, safety, and biosecurity laws and procedures.
