About the role

Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and other business and organizational considerations.

Responsibilities

  • PATIENT CARE - Assist in the pre, intra and post physical assessments of the patient's condition; collects, labels, transports and receives dialysis laboratory specimens
  • PATIENT CARE - Perform arteriovenous puncture and administer intradermal lidocaine for dialysis access
  • PATIENT CARE - Administer heparin, isotonic saline and oxygen
  • REPORTS - Prepare, monitor, perform and report results of required quality control checks on hemodialyzer, hemodialysis machine, and water treatment systems
  • ENVIRONMENT - Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards
  • SUPPORT - Clean patient care rooms, equipment and instruments; report equipment problems; order and store supplies; maintain appropriate PAR levels
  • SCHEDULE - Schedule patients for outpatient follow-up appointments according to physicians orders; and schedule tests or procedures according to physicians orders, including creation of outpatient encounters, as needed
  • PRIOR AUTHORIZATION - Submit requests for eligibility on patients for outside services as needed
  • TELEPHONE - Answer telephone and intercom, take and communicate messages accurately to the appropriate person
  • SUPPLIES & EQUIPMENT - Order supplies and equipment; receive and place items in their proper storage area; ensure equipment is in operating order
  • SUPPLIES - Deliver dirty instrument trays and sharps containers to CDU, specimens to the lab; pick up pharmacy and CDU supplies as necessary
  • CLEAN - Perform clean-up in helping the unit prepare for new patients to maintain a safe, clean environment
  • TRANSPORT - Transport patients to and from appointments, clinics, laboratories, and/or treatments
  • ADMINISTRATION - Perform various administrative functions such as monitoring expenditures and preparing reports and correspondence; may participate in a variety of research projects to develop service plans; may propose changes to program policies and procedures
  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Qualifications

  • Education: High School or GED Equivalent
  • Experience: 1 year directly related experience
  • Credentials: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days, Hemodialysis Certification in New Mexico
