About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • See patients in the continuity clinics and new referrals of patients to the hematology/oncology outpatient clinics.
  • Serve as the primary physician for patients with active cancer or hematologic disease.
  • Supervise inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy and infusion procedures.
  • Perform bone marrow aspirates and biopsies and participate in oncology conferences.
  • Serve as the primary physician for hematology/oncology fellows from Kansas University Medical Center.
  • Contribute to the active clinical trials program at the Kansas City Oncology Department.
  • Oversight of regulatory requirements and compliance with IRB regulations in human research.
  • Engage in clinical research, administrative, and educational programs of the Hematology/Oncology Section.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved medical school
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program
  • Ability to pass a background/security investigation
  • Pass a physical examination
  • Pass seasonal influenza vaccination program
