Help Honor Veterans with CUCS

About the role

CUCS works across New York City’s five boroughs, providing outreach, shelters, transitional programs, drop‑in centers, and permanent supportive housing for homeless, formerly homeless, and low‑income individuals and families. The organization connects clients to benefits, primary medical and mental healthcare through Janian Medical Care, and offers professional training to partner nonprofits via its Training Institute. This volunteer opportunity invites you to help honor veterans living in CUCS supportive housing during a special Veterans Day lunch.

Responsibilities

• Assist with event setup and decorations
• Serve lunch, dessert, and drinks to residents
• Help with light cleanup after the event
• Support residents sharing stories of their military service (branches, stations, deployments)
• Veteran volunteers may share their own experiences
• Help residents write notes to currently deployed service members
• Assist with a visit from a Veterans Affairs community representative who will provide information on resources and services
