About the role
This position operates heavy day cab trucks and multi-axle trailers in the delivery of heavy machinery, industrial tractors, and equipment, including the operation of heavy machinery in the on-load and off-load process. The role is responsible for the safe transportation of heavy machinery, industrial tractors, and equipment to and from various branch stores and customer job locations while adhering to company safety regulations and state laws. This mid-level position requires more than five years of experience and/or demonstrated job-relevant knowledge and skills, with broad expertise in standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. The incumbent relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performing a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Model, promote, reinforce, and reward consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with the company’s Vision, Values, and Mission.
- Transport all equipment deliveries and pickups in a positive, caring manner while striving for promptness, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Secure equipment onto trucks and ensure materials meet state and federal guidelines for safe transport and vehicle capabilities.
- Assist other departments whenever required in an efficient manner.
- Complete DOT-required driver’s daily log accurately and without misrepresentation.
- Complete driver’s daily inspection report, recommend repairs or maintenance, and maintain the clean appearance of the company-assigned vehicle.
- Complete and submit all related documentation accurately and timely to maintain established business systems and processes (e.g., rental agreements, equipment check-out/check-in reports, return/pick-up receipts, non-movement permits).
- Maintain all physical resources (shop appearance, staging area, tools, parts, inventory, personal hygiene) in clean, working order to ensure a safe working environment and exceptional customer satisfaction.
- Perform pre- and post-vehicle inspections; inspect trucks for defects and safe operating condition before, during, and after delivery trips.
- Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies; comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with Class A CDL required; must maintain this license.
- Five years of verifiable heavy haul driving experience required; over eight years preferred.
- Three years of verifiable driving experience operating a 7 or 8-axle configuration truck required; five or more years preferred.
- Doubles and triples endorsements required.
Skills
- Sound knowledge of industrial engines, transportation, and safe driving procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations/DOT guidelines.
- Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Understanding of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment and meeting quality standards.
- Quality control analysis skills—conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Operation and control skills—controlling operations of equipment or systems.
- Equipment selection skills—determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to perform a job.
- Ability to adjust controls of a machine or vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
- Ability to read maps and operate GPS systems.
- Ability to maintain a clean driving record and demonstrate diligent attention to safety.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair.
- Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects.
- Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
- Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 100% of the time.
- Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Constant movement and use of limbs; requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
- Ability to ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress using both hands and feet, and climb up and down ladders.
- Ability to safely maneuver and work underneath equipment.
- Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and visually inspects work.
Work Environment
- Requires working in a closed vehicle or equipment.
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
- Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions, including extreme conditions such as heavy rain, wind, or excessive temperatures.
- Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
- Significant time spent in confined spaces and/or high places.
Travel up to 100%. No supervisory responsibilities.
