The City of Kodiak is recruiting for a full-time position in the Public Works Department. The department seeks an experienced team player to join a progressive team serving the community's needs.

About the role

Under general supervision, this position performs specialized and journey-level duties involved in minor and major repairs, maintenance, and inspection of mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on light and heavy gasoline and diesel vehicles, emergency response vehicles/equipment, trucks, and other equipment. Responsibilities include diagnosing, overhauling, repairing, and adjusting engines, transmissions, and related vehicle systems, as well as performing preventive maintenance and safety inspections. The role also involves maintaining records and reports.

The City of Kodiak operates a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, and this position ensures their efficient repair, maintenance, and record-keeping while upholding standards that reflect positively on the City and Department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor and major repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems of light and heavy vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose, overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, and related vehicle systems and components.
  • Service and perform preventive maintenance on a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct safety inspections.
  • Maintain records and reports related to repairs and maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED).
  • One year of specialized or technical training beyond high school.
  • Four years of automotive, diesel, and heavy equipment repair experience.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid Alaska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B within six months of hire.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certifications.
  • Valid Alaska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A.

Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
