About the role

The Heavy Equipment Service Technician will be responsible for servicing and repairing Caterpillar heavy equipment and/or engines at our Reserve, LA location or at customer locations. Essential functions include diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on all components of heavy equipment, removing and installing engine components, understanding and executing the Caterpillar exchange parts process, and creating and tracking work order documents.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all components of heavy equipment such as electrical codes, engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, power generation, and power trains.
  • Remove and install heavy equipment engine components according to Caterpillar standards and technical service manuals.
  • Understand and execute the Caterpillar exchange parts process and conduct financial cost analysis for our customers.
  • Create, track, and formalize work order documents on our Caterpillar customer service report software systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in diesel mechanics preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic.
  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engine systems, including diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Must own required tool inventory. Louisiana Cat offers an exclusive Tooling Program.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service skills, mechanical aptitude, professional demeanor, and always "safety-first" mentality every hour of every day.

Qualifications

  • Physical demands: Stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms; lift up to 75 pounds; stoop, kneel, crouch, and squat; exert push/pull forces with the arms; use hands to grasp hand tools and parts; climb onto and operate equipment; operate and maintain a field service vehicle with GVW of less than 26,000 lbs.
  • Work environment: Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts; exposed to weather extremes when working outside; exposed to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment; requires wearing common protective or safety equipment; exposure to noise levels that may be loud at times.

Pay

$18.00 - $25.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Monday through Friday; some Saturday shifts required. 40+ hours a week.
