Heavy Equipment /Scale Operator

About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Operator ensures the safe operation of heavy equipment at the Transfer Station for transferring and loading materials efficiently and safely. This role also includes responsibilities as a Scale Operator, serving as the face of the facility by weighing inbound and outbound materials, processing outbound Bills of Lading, and verifying material loads.

Responsibilities

• Open and close the facility according to scheduled hours of operation.
• Oversee the schedule for truck dumping and trailer switching.
• Maintain cleanliness of public areas of the transfer station per daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
• Ensure customers (external and internal) use the transfer station according to all safety rules and regulations.
• Meet loading schedules to ensure driver loads are ready for production.
• Direct incoming trucks and vehicles to appropriate unloading areas safely.
• Follow all safety and equipment checks and precautions in performing duties.
• Report mechanical problems during pre-trip inspections or routine functions to the shop foreman immediately.
• Participate in training and learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, and services.
• Follow company standards, procedures, policies, and permitted regulations to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
• Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with drivers, staff, and customers.
• Maintain accurate scale operations and records for factual reporting.
• Coordinate the loading and unloading of materials, machine actions, and positioning within a busy environment.
• Interface with company drivers, outside haulers, and third-party vehicles to oversee job functions.
• Perform any other duties needed to drive the company’s vision, fulfill its mission, and abide by its core values.

Career Path

• Apprentice: 0-2 years of experience operating heavy equipment. Demonstrates ability to operate one type of yellow iron equipment and possesses complete knowledge of safety protocols.
• Operator I: 2-4 years of experience. Demonstrates ability to safely operate two types of yellow iron equipment and has strong knowledge of safety protocols.
• Operator II: 4-6 years of experience. Demonstrates ability to safely operate three types of yellow iron equipment and possesses expert-level knowledge of safety protocols.
• Lead Operator: 6+ years of experience. Demonstrates ability to operate all types of yellow iron equipment, develop training plans, mentor employees, and prioritize, delegate, and communicate effectively.

Requirements

• Self-directed individual, at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of prior experience in heavy equipment operation preferred.
• Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
• Physical ability to perform duties in various weather conditions.
• Proven commitment to work and safety.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Pay

Starting hiring range: $18-$21 per hour.
