About the role
This position performs duties in the operation of the NTMWD Landfills. The role is responsible for operating various pieces of heavy equipment within a specific landfill area, working under general supervision.
Responsibilities
- Operates and monitors performance of heavy construction equipment such as landfill compactors, bulldozers, loaders, off-road articulated dump trucks, motor graders, etc.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment with minimal supervision.
- Monitors process operations as directed by supervisor.
- Maintains housekeeping in assigned units.
- Observes safe work practices.
- Verifies that delivered waste complies with applicable rules and regulations.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of two years of experience operating heavy construction equipment.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Skills
- Sustained mental attention for correct process adjustments in landfill maintenance.
- Spatial discrimination, eye-hand-foot coordination, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Generally good physical condition.
Working Conditions
- Driving a District vehicle for business purposes is required; must maintain a valid, vehicle-appropriate driver’s license.
- Moderate physical exertion with daily lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Exposure to weather and odor.
- Subject to shift work.
- Equipment used includes bulldozers, loaders, articulated dump trucks, fuel trucks, backhoes, motor graders, air compressors, high-pressure washers, and other miscellaneous equipment.
