Essential Responsibilities
- Ensures work accomplished is in compliance with government regulations and all building codes
- Provides material requirement listing for work in government acceptable format
- Maintains required readings, records, and documentation
- Operates equipment and machinery related to HEO’s duties and responsibilities in pavements and grounds operations to include crushers and chip spreaders
- Researches and identifies road surface requirements and calculates material requirements for road preservation
- Provides leadership to independent work groups for the accomplishment of assigned tasks
- Maintains quality control standards on all work performed
- Affirms safe work practices and procedures both in independent and small work groups
- Operates general and special purpose vehicles
- Lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models, schematics, or verbal instructions using a variety of measuring instruments and makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least 4 years of experience as a heavy equipment operator acquired through training and/or experience under a formal apprenticeship program or equivalent
- Ability to pass a practical skills test administered in a variety of equipment to include but not limited to a backhoe, bulldozer, scraper, road grader, and front-end loader
- Ability to satisfactorily answer a variety of interview questions
- Valid Nevada Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Good judgment and common sense when performing job functions
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Punctuality and patience to work under stressful conditions
- Ability to identify areas requiring immediate attention and use practical skills to solve problems
- Fluency in English as exemplified in writing and in verbal skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands
- Conducts work in out-of-doors areas with exposure to extreme climatic conditions
- Lifts up to 50 lbs., stoops, climbs, stands, sits, and works in areas where a potential accident could exist or exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents
- May be required to execute temporary duty travel as required
- Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire and Safety Regulations and published company work rules
