Heavy Equipment Operator Day Shift

About the role

Martin Marietta is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator and Plant Maintenance technician for the Durham mine. The role involves operating mobile heavy equipment to move raw materials from the pit to the plant, performing equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and assisting with plant repairs and housekeeping.

Responsibilities

• Operate mobile heavy equipment including haul truck, motor grader, water truck, loader, and crane.
• Transport raw materials from pit to plant at maximum loading capacity.
• Assist in plant repairs and clean‑up.
• Perform pre‑shift safety inspections on equipment.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and service mobile equipment.
• Report needed repairs to shop personnel.
• Maintain good housekeeping of equipment.
• Adhere to MSHA and plant safety rules and regulations.
• Perform duties with minimum supervision.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• One year of experience operating heavy mobile equipment (preferred).
• Background in maintenance, welding, military, or material handling is a plus.
• Bilingual ability is a plus.

Skills

• Ability to read equipment operating manuals.
• Ability to complete pre‑shift inspection reports.
• Ability to communicate in English via radio or CB.
• Basic mathematical aptitude for daily reports.
• Ability to wear all required safety equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret gauges.
• Proven ability to work in a team environment.
