Heavy Equipment Operator

About the role

MasTec Civil is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team in Tampa, FL. This is a non-FSLA exempt, skilled craft position that operates heavy construction equipment such as backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, and loaders. Responsibilities include performing a variety of tasks, ensuring safety, and maintaining equipment.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in handling, pre-start inspections, post-start inspections, maneuvering skills, shut down and securing procedures.
• Work various shifts in a team environment, including responsibility for daily team functions and communication with senior management.
• Perform daily safety and operational inspections of equipment, reporting any deficiencies and performing minor repairs.
• Communicate any damages or mechanical breakdowns to the Supervisor and Fleet Department.
• Schedule and perform regular maintenance of assigned equipment according to the operations and maintenance manual.
• Understand and communicate equipment operation characteristics, controls, capacity limitations, emergency skills, and response to various situations.
• Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and ensuring all employees remain outside the reach of moving equipment.
• Load and unload materials from trucks, assist in placing and removing TBW construction concrete barriers, and change equipment attachments as needed.
• Maintain situational awareness and communicate effectively with other workers and contractors.
• Load trucks as needed and ensure equipment is shut down and secured during maintenance.

Qualifications

• Construction-related experience (roads, highways, bridges, etc.) with 2-5 years of experience for Excavator or Bulldozer.
• Required documentation evidencing competency or certifications as per industry standards and/or governmental agencies.
• Completion of High School or secondary education preferred.
