About the role
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic (On-Road), you will maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy machinery, on-road trucks, and vehicles to ensure optimal performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
Responsibilities
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
- Operate and inspect machines, on-road trucks, or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment, on-road trucks, and vehicles.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
- Schedule maintenance for industrial machines, on-road trucks, and equipment, and keep equipment service records.
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Overhaul and test machines, on-road trucks, or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Repair and diagnose hydraulics, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Assemble and align drive trains.
- Learn the ins and outs of roadway construction and paving.
Requirements
- Post-secondary or Career and Technical Center training in mechanics or diesel preferred, or 2 years of experience in lieu of training.
- Minimum of Class C Driver’s License; Class A or B CDL preferred (or willingness to obtain at the request of the company).
- Inspection License is not required but encouraged.

- Capable and willing to travel to job sites within a defined geographic territory.
- High School Graduate/GED.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain) and compliant with NESL Driving Standards.
