Heavy Equipment Mechanic
About the role
TransAlta is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their Mine Reclamation team in Centralia, WA. This is a full-time, unionized position based out of the Centralia Mine. The role follows a 4x10 hour shift schedule, Monday through Thursday.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance repairs on major rolling stock equipment, including Hitachi 3500 loader, Cat wheel-loaders, Cat 777 mechanical haul trucks, Cat dozers, Cat excavators, and Komatsu loaders.
- Perform secondary maintenance on light duty pickups, forklifts, and Class 8 service trucks.
- Knowledge in air conditioning and welding is beneficial.
Requirements
- Equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience working with heavy industrial equipment.
- Able to consistently work in a safe manner.
- Able to understand and follow mine safety and production policies and procedures.
- Able to problem solve independently.
- Able to communicate clearly.
- Able to hear clearly (corrected or uncorrected).
- Must possess good visual acuity (corrected or uncorrected).
- Able to regularly climb ladders.
- Occasional lifting of up to 40lbs.
- Available to work a shift schedule.

Skills
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Welding knowledge (beneficial).

This position is covered under the IUOE Local 612-B collective agreement. The current union hourly rate for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic is $40.09 USD.
