Job Overview
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing the company's fleet of trucks, trailers, diesel engines, and landscape equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on diesel trucks, trailers, skid steers, loaders, excavators, tree service equipment, and small engines
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and emissions-related issues using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
- Complete repairs including engine work, brake systems, suspension, and hydraulics as needed
- Conduct safety inspections and DOT-compliant checks on fleet vehicles; document findings and repairs as needed
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment condition in the fleet management system(s)
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns in the shop and occasionally in the field
- Recommend improvements to maintenance processes, schedules, and equipment life cycles
- Keep the shop clean, safe, and organized; follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements
- Assist with parts ordering, inventory management, and vendor coordination as needed
- Support seasonal equipment prep, including spring commissioning and winterization
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2+ years as a mechanic at the journeyman level in the power equipment industry
- Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and equipment diagnostics
- Ability to read technical manuals and schematics
- Valid drivers license; CDL Class A, preferred
- Own basic tools needed to perform repairs
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
