About the role

This is an entry level of repair and maintenance work on motor vehicles, diesel powered equipment and/or construction/maintenance equipment. This position requires knowledge of basic principles of operation and construction of diesel and gas-powered engines; knowledge of proper use, care, and maintenance of various standard hand tools; knowledge of repair and service concepts, principles, testing devices, tools, meters, etc. involved in the repair and servicing of heavy road maintenance equipment. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports, carry out instructions, communicate and work effectively with others.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: None.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: None.
  • Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) may be substituted for two years of the required education.
  • Certification as a Master Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Candidates must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.

Skills

Pay

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.00 per hour.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is 40 hours per week.

Additional Information

  • Special Requirements: Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. All applicants must list their license number and expiration date on the application. Selected candidate will need to obtain a Class B CDL license within six months of appointment.
  • Additional Information: Employees in this class may be required to obtain Special Commercial Driver's License Endorsements for Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicles depending on the type of equipment operated.
  • Additional Information: Employees will be required to successfully complete agency certification programs to be eligible for permanent status in this classification.
