Heavy Diesel Mechanic

Duties And Responsibilities

• Diagnosis, troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and diesel equipment.
• Perform root-cause analysis to determine necessary corrective actions.
• Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematic diagrams and technical repair manuals.
• Conduct extensive equipment inspections and identify worn and damaged parts.
• Verify equipment performance by conducting field tests.
• Order and fabricate parts as needed.
• Complete preventive maintenance schedules; install component and part upgrades; control corrosion; complete winterization procedures.
• Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.
• Complete machine shop operations; make adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
• Annotate services and repairs in vehicle records.
• Maintain shop equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
• Work independently and communicate complex information to various levels of employees and management.
• Willingness to travel for 2-3 days at a time.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years mechanic experience, preferably in the construction industry.
• Extensive diagnostic and repair experience with trucks and heavy equipment, preferably including directional drills.
• Own tools.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional long hours to support drill crew during critical pullbacks.
• Self-starter willing to work independently.
