About the role
We are actively seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic with hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy-duty diesel vehicles, including transit coaches. If you specialize in diesel engine diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance, this role offers an excellent opportunity to work in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment ensuring our diesel-powered fleet remains safe, reliable, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Expertly diagnose and repair issues related to diesel engines, diesel fuel systems, diesel electrical components, diesel hydraulic systems, air conditioning, brakes, suspension, and other mechanical systems.
- Conduct both in-shop and roadside diesel vehicle repairs using advanced diagnostic software such as Cummins Insite, Allison Prognostics, VANSCO, and DINEX.
- Repair and maintain ADA equipment, fire suppression systems, and critical safety components on diesel-powered vehicles.
- Perform diesel engine upgrades, modifications, and parts fabrication as specified by manufacturers and client requirements.
- Conduct thorough road tests to verify proper diesel vehicle performance and safety.
- Execute preventive maintenance inspections on diesel vehicles at scheduled mileage/time intervals using standardized checklists to ensure compliance.
- Maintain detailed records of all diesel repairs, parts usage, diagnostics, and labor.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of progressive experience in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment diesel maintenance.
- High School diploma or GED required; post-secondary technical training in diesel mechanics or related fields preferred.
- Physical capability to lift up to 75 lbs and work on top of diesel vehicles.
- Proficiency with diesel diagnostic computer equipment and technical manuals.
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Must pass pre-employment drug test, background check, and physical examination.
- Availability to work flexible shifts in a 24/7 operational environment.
Skills & Expertise
- Strong expertise in diesel engine systems, diesel hydraulics, diesel braking systems, and diesel electrical schematics.
- Excellent communication, troubleshooting, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a high-volume diesel repair setting.
