About the role
This position delivers technical and professional engineering, construction, and maintenance to sustain facilities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. You will lead a team of skilled professionals in the transportation and operation of heavy equipment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare drawings and sketches for fabrication projects and convey verbal instructions.
- Prepare as-built drawings for components designed internally.
- Participate in conceptual and 30-60-90 drawing reviews to mitigate issues of functionality or feasibility.
- Identify issues or conflicts requiring adjustments or exemptions to construction practices.
- Analyze project specifications for sequence of work, material and personnel requirements, and scheduling of deliveries.
- Develop specifications for bidding processes and prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Inspect, operate, and transport heavy earthmoving equipment.
- Work around, expose, and install sensitive buried utilities and alarm lines.
- Install, disassemble, and replace plumbing components.
- Demolish or alter buildings, sheds, concrete forms, and other structures.
- Pour and finish concrete curbs, driveways, walkways, and general pads.
- Manage and supervise a team of journey level workers in the transportation and operation of heavy equipment.
- Mentor technical and professional level staff to support an effective, motivated team.
- Monitor and inspect work in progress to ensure continuity and timely completion of work.
Requirements
- Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience performing construction, maintenance, heavy equipment operations, facilities management, public works, transportation infrastructure, natural resource infrastructure, or related construction activities.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in one or more construction trades (e.g., carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, heavy equipment operation, concrete, or related trades) and two (2) years of journey-level experience performing construction, maintenance, or infrastructure projects.
- A valid driver’s license and Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Qualifications
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience performing construction, maintenance, heavy equipment operations, facilities management, public works, transportation infrastructure, natural resource infrastructure, or related construction activities.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in two or more construction trades (e.g., carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, heavy equipment operation, concrete, or related trades) and four years of journey-level experience performing construction, maintenance, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience coordinating construction activities with engineers, biologists, contractors, permitting agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Experience constructing or maintaining roads, boat launches, dikes, levees, fish passage structures, engineered log jams, stream channels, pipelines, or similar infrastructure.
- Knowledge of regulatory city and county permits relating to construction.
- Knowledge of agency-related permits such as Hydraulic Project Approvals (HPA), Cultural, and State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA).
- Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead Certification.

Expert operation of construction and earth moving equipment, planning and coordinating equipment, materials, workforce requirements, and construction sequencing for field-based projects, knowledge of heavy equipment operations, earthwork, road maintenance, erosion control, stream restoration techniques, and construction methods used in natural resource or transportation projects.
