The Role

A Willmeng Heavy Civil Field Engineer is an essential member of the project team, providing technical support on major infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, tunnels, and utilities. Working closely with project managers and superintendents, the field engineer helps ensure that construction activities are executed according to design specifications, quality standards, and project schedules. This role blends hands-on fieldwork with technical problem-solving, supporting Willmeng's commitment to operational excellence, safety, and teamwork on every jobsite.

What you will accomplish

  • Serve as a technical resource for field crews and subcontractors, interpreting drawings and specs.
  • Aid in planning, estimating, and project documentation to support smooth operations.
  • Prepare and implement the project management plan alongside the project team.
  • Perform quantity calculations and verify installed materials for accurate progress tracking.
  • Provide field layout and surveying support, setting elevation and control points as needed.
  • Maintain quality control by reviewing submittals, RFIs, and ensuring installations meet specs.
  • Track daily labor timesheets, material deliveries, and maintain up-to-date project records.
  • Support jobsite safety through participation in safety reviews, toolbox talks, and training.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordinating material deliveries, and helping keep the project on track.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 5 years of industry experience, ready to grow and contribute on Willmeng projects.
  • Brings hands-on experience through internships or entry-level roles in construction.
  • Demonstrates a strong foundation in safety practices and jobsite planning.
  • Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively with project teams and field crews.
  • Shows a keen interest or background in heavy civil work—earthwork, paving, grading, excavation, or bridgework.
