Heavy Civil Estimators
About the role
Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking Heavy Civil Estimators in St. Joseph, MO to join their team. This role is crucial in preparing accurate cost estimates, scopes, and proposals for public and private infrastructure projects, supporting their pursuit of competitive bids and negotiated work.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Work in a team environment and with other estimators.
- Participate in job walks, pre-bid meetings, and site visits to gather real-world insights.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to develop accurate and competitive estimates for heavy civil components.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for heavy civil elements including cast-in-place concrete, rebar, formwork, shotcrete, and retaining wall systems.
- Develop cost breakdowns and pricing model using historical data, supplier quotes, and production rates.
- Support value engineering efforts and constructability reviews.
- Estimate close-out.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A four-year degree in construction-related field or equivalent experience preferred.
- Three to five years estimating or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Bluebeam and HCSS Heavybid is a plus.
- Communicate professionally to all parties both orally and in writing.
- Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
- Must work well in a team environment.
- Approximately 30% travel required.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

- Work primarily in an office environment.
- Frequent sitting for extended periods of time.
- Frequent use of a computer keyboard and office-related equipment.
- Occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
