What to Expect as a Heavy Civil and Roadway Superintendent
In this leadership role, you step onto the job site each day as the driving force behind progress, ensuring everything runs safely, efficiently, and on schedule. You coordinate crews and subcontractors, manage materials and equipment, and keep all moving parts aligned with project goals. Throughout the day, you track quantities, approve invoices, and maintain detailed logs, all while collaborating closely with engineers and project teams. Your leadership keeps operations seamless, your attention to detail ensures accuracy, and your commitment to safety sets the standard for every project you oversee.
Responsibilities
- Lead crews and subcontractors on heavy civil and roadway projects
- Ensure projects run safely, efficiently, and on schedule
- Coordinate materials and equipment
- Track quantities and approve invoices
- Maintain detailed logs and collaborate with engineers and project teams
- Uphold safety standards and construction regulations
- Read plans and perform quantity take-offs
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- OSHA 30 certified
- 5+ years of superintendent experience
- Ability to work onsite
- Must live within 1 hour of the job location
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field
- 10+ years of heavy civil construction project superintendent experience
- Project management experience
- Estimating experience
- Survey experience
- Construction site management and safety skills
- Organization skills
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Budgeting abilities
- Knowledge of construction regulations and building codes
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and Bluebeam
- Ability to multitask and solve problems

Pay
$130,000–180,000 per year
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with flexibility as needed based on project demands.
