About the role

This temporary seasonal position involves various tasks related to agricultural production and maintenance. The primary responsibilities include loading and unloading crops or materials, operating machinery, spraying pesticides, and performing incidental repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers.
  • Mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery.
  • Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus, and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition.
  • Drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers.
  • Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment.
  • Record information about crops, such as pesticide use, yields, or costs.
  • Measure, weigh, and count products and materials.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
  • Operate a forklift and skid steer loader (hand and foot controls as well as joystick controls) to load and unload pre-packaged products from trailers.
  • Understand basic flow of fluid and actuate valves in a responsible way to ensure no leaks or unintended mixing of fluids.
  • Complete soil sampling if needed to determine certain biological factors.
  • Operate and treat soybean seed through a treater.
  • Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities.
  • Perform emergency/incidental repairs as needed, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, or spark plugs.
  • Drive vehicles with capacities over three tons to transport materials to and from specified destinations, such as railroad stations, plants, residences, offices, or within industrial yards.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record is required.
  • Minimum of 3 months of experience is required.
  • Certified license is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL within 30 days of hire.
  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Extensive sitting is required.
  • Repetitive movements is required.
  • Positive verifiable experience relevant to the job and capable of performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Able to speak English.
  • Comply with strict biosecurity, company policies, and food safety guidelines.
  • Meet all of the following criteria: available and willing to work the entire season, have transportation to job site at start of season, transportation costs will be reimbursed, have been fully apprised by the local employment office of the terms, conditions, and nature of employment, legally entitled to work in the U.S., able, willing, and qualified to perform the work, and possess documentation required to enable employer to comply with the employment verification requirements of IRCA.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate a forklift as well as a skid steer loader (hand and foot controls as well as joystick controls) to load and unload pre-packaged products from trailers.
  • Understand basic flow of fluid as we will mix some bulk liquid products on site.
  • Complete soil sampling if needed to determine certain biological factors.
  • Operate and treat soybean seed through a treater.
  • Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record is required to ensure a safe and productive environment, as well as insurability.

Skills

  • Knowledge of agricultural machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various types of vehicles and equipment.
  • Good physical stamina and strength.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and valve operation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, especially regarding safety protocols and equipment operation.

The pay rate will be determined based on the employer's budget and the prevailing wage rates in the area.
