Heating Air Conditioning Mechanic

Supporting Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK.

About the Role

Performs repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilating, and refrigeration air conditioning systems (HVACR).

Responsibilities

• Checks utility systems such as water and steam piping for leaks or other problems (e.g., water-logged steam traps).
• Lubricates, greases, and performs filter changes; labels all lubrication points.
• Performs periodic inspections on HVAC systems; troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and performs repairs.
• Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and air conditioning systems electrical wiring.
• Repairs or replaces refrigeration compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, pulleys, and HVAC control air compressors.
• Services and repairs evaporators, condensers, receivers; repacks valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters, and cleans coils.
• Repairs components within a system, including transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, and aquastats.
• Utilizes and interprets technical manuals, shop directives, blueprints, sketches, diagrams, and specifications; follows verbal and written instructions.
• Completes daily work order logs documenting inspections, maintenance, and repair information (work performed, materials used, hours worked).
• Responds to after-hours call-outs as needed.
• Interfaces with customers and gathers feedback as applicable.
• Operates motor vehicles in accordance with company vehicle policies.
• Complies with federal, state, USAF, and OSHA environmental laws, health and safety rules, and procedures; performs work safely and wears required PPE.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Valid state driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of valid insurance.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in HVAC and refrigeration repair, including preventative maintenance.
• EPA Universal Certification 608.
• Oklahoma Mechanical Journeyman Unlimited License with Heating and Air Conditioning.
• Maintains all necessary licenses, IDs, and certifications.
• Ability to solve problems and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to adapt to changes in technology and applicable facility/infrastructure codes and standards.
• Familiarity with facility/infrastructure codes and standards.
• Professional and courteous demeanor in diverse situations.
• Proficiency with a variety of hand and power tools.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Two years’ verifiable experience with infrared technology, ultrasound, or equivalent certification (for PdM department only).

Preferred Qualifications

• Five (5) years’ experience in commercial/industrial HVAC and refrigeration repair, including preventative maintenance.
• Basic understanding of automatic control monitoring systems.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing chillers and boilers.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Military experience.
• Previous experience working on a military installation or Tinker facilities.
• Familiarity with military-specific facility/infrastructure codes and standards.

Position may require obtaining and retaining a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) and/or Personal Clearance (PCL) as required by law or contract. Pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check required.
