About the role

As a Heat Treat Operator, you will be an integral part of a successful team producing machined components for military, aerospace, oil/gas, and other applications. You will set up, operate, and tend heat-treating equipment such as furnaces to temper, harden, anneal, and heat-treat metal, impacting physical properties in forgings to meet customer specifications. Training will be conducted on 1st or 2nd shift; permanent shift will be determined after training.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare furnace loads in accordance with detailed furnace load maps.
  • Prepare and assemble load thermocouples.
  • Load forgings into heat-treat furnaces and remove them after required heating using manipulators and forklifts.
  • Move completed furnace loads to appropriate cooling stations.
  • Set furnace temperature controls to suit material type and process.
  • Monitor furnace operation and performance.
  • Process forgings through quench and cool operations.
  • Work from specifications, charts, and detailed work instructions.
  • Generate and update required reports to document process parameters.
  • Operate Brinell/Rockwell hardness testing equipment to determine forging hardness after heat treatment.
  • Create move tickets after heat treatment processing is complete.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in a transferrable industry with transferrable skills.
  • Basic reading, math, and measurement comprehension; ability to read instructions and perform simple measurements is critical.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, Vo-Tech Certificate, or associate degree in electrical, mechanical, or another related curriculum (preferred).
  • Experience with AMS 2750 pyrometry standard (preferred).
  • Experience with hardness testing (preferred).

Skills

  • Knowledge of heat-treating practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge/use of industrial heavy equipment.
  • Familiarity with industrial furnaces and components.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze and resolve difficult problems effectively and implement long-term solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
